Two disciples walked away from Jerusalem in despair. Their hopes had been crucified, their dreams buried in a borrowed tomb. And yet, the very source of their hope was walking beside them, unrecognized.
How often do we walk our own road to Emmaus? How often does Christ accompany us in our suffering, in our confusion, in our moments of deepest doubt — and we do not recognize Him?
It was in the breaking of the bread that their eyes were opened. In that simple, sacred gesture — the same He performed at the Last Supper — the risen Christ revealed Himself. The Eucharist is our Emmaus moment. Every Mass is an encounter with the Risen Lord who breaks bread with us, who opens our eyes, who sets our hearts on fire.
Let us not walk away from Jerusalem. Let us return, with burning hearts, to proclaim what we have seen and known: the Lord is truly risen!
